Sample Pre-Game

Note: These instructions are a sample only. Your instructions may be different based upon many factors, including Weather, Partners, Field Conditions, Age Level, Tournament Rules, and your own preferences as the man in the middle.

    1. Diagonal - AR sides
    2. Offside responsibilities
    • Stay with offside call at all times (SLD or ball).
    • On FK just outside the box, CR will cover goal, if necessary. AR stay with offside.
    • Signal only if offside player is participating.
    • Missed flag - hold in place until play is over and going in opposite direction.
    1. In Touch
    • Your half - give direction; my half, straight up unless I ask for help.
    • Missed flag - hold in place until I see flag.
    1. Fouls - I’ll make all calls in PA. Outside PA, if you’re sure I couldn’t see the play, make eye contact with me first before calling penal foul; then raise flag and give direction (if necessary).
    2. TI responsibilities. AR watches feet; CR everything else.
    3. PK responsibilities. AR is goal judge; CR will handle everything else.
    4. Misconduct behind CR’s back.
    • If YC, wait until stoppage to get CR attention.
    • If RC, raise flag immediately and I’ll deal with it.
    1. Subs. Do not signal for subs unless they have reported to you before stoppage. Mirror flags. Follow standard procedure. One in, one out.
    2. Time. I’ll add stoppage time. Both back up - fist over chest when time expired.
    3. Good goal. Sprint up field- eye contact.
    4. Record keeping. Keep record of game, scores, cards, player numbers if fights; we’ll compare at half and after game.
    5. Wave off. If I decide to overrule you, I’ll give palm down signal. Don’t be offended.
